work is primarily funded by grants and individual
donations.

A graduate of Lindbloom Technical
High School in Chicago Illinois, Mr.
Cummings received an A.A. Degree
in Liberal Arts from Lincoln College.
He then continued his education at
Parks College and the Aerospace
Institute receiving a B.S. Degree in
Aeronautical Engineering. He has
worked for several firms as a Design
Engineer, and is a commercial pilot,
flight instructor (CF-II) and Advanced
ground Instructor ratings.
Mrs. Coleman is a graduate of
Roosevelt University with a MA Degree
in Sociology concentration in
Gerontology, received BA from
Mundelein College Liberal Arts, and a
Paralegal Certification.
After 25 years of service, Mrs.
Coleman Retired from the City of
Chicago Water Management as an
Assistant to the Commissioner. Mrs
Coleman worked as a Commodity
Manager for Chicago Public School
system. Additionally, Mrs. Coleman
worked as a substitute teacher for the
Lighthouse for the Blind Preschool,
Chicago Public School and the South
Cook County School District.

Grant/Funding Operations
A retired teacher of aviation flight
Technology. Mr. Henry is a Special
Education teacher, and has taught for
the New York Department of
Education. Mr. Henry was a former
Commander in the Civil Air Patrol.
Also is a private pilot with an
Advanced Ground Instructor rating.
Mr. Henry is a certified Drone Pilot
and is instrumental in teaching and
training students to become
commercial drone pilots.
Melinda is the CEO of HR Control
Solutions, LLC (HRCS) and provides
professional and consulting services
to companies which include grant
writing, business development, and
strategic planning. She is a Bessie
Coleman Aviation All-Stars Advocate.
Ms. Lewis is a Chicago native. She
received a Bachelor of Science degree
in Elementary Education, while
attending the University of Wisconsin
and Chicago State University. Those
skills were used to begin her teaching
career at the Hertzel Elementary in
Chicago and McKinley Elementary in
Bellwood ILL., for many years. In a
career move, Ms. Lewis accepted a
position at Sonicraft Inc. (a defense
manufacturing firm) as a Senior
Buyer. Government positions credited
to Ms Lewis are as follows. Chicago
Dept of Health, Chicago Public School,
Chicago Park District, and the City of
Chicago Procurement Department of

A Vietnam veteran served as a helicopter crew chief with the
U.S. Army. After the service he taught at the Bell & Howell
school in Chicago. He taught at the National School of
Locksmith Safe and Security. Software developer, micro
processor component circuit designer, and video studio control
room operator.

Exposure is the key
Our program is designed to promote STEM ( science, technology engineering, and math), teach the theory of flight (aeronautics) and
introduce various careers, pioneers and inventors in aviation. The students were given a survey that asked them to identify careers in
aviation. Ninety (90%) percent of them could only identify four (4) careers: janitoral, baggage handler, ticket agent, and flight attendant.

Our instructors have a passion for aviation and teaching, they are actual pilots with aviation ground and flight
instructor certifications. We start our program and continue to the end with “awareness sessions” to discuss the
various career opportunities in aviation.
We conduct field trips to various airports and sit-in on college level career seminars. Guided tours of Airport operation
facilities , Air Traffic Control Tower, FBO’s, baggage, and aircraft maintenance facilities. With this exposure, students are able to
get an inside look of what aviation careers are about, and what it takes to acquire them. We also provide hands on learning
experiences in the fundamentals of aerodynamics, using various training aids including maps, flight simulators, drones, and
airplanes.

Mya Coley was a student in the STEM program which was at
Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy. She earned a
pilot’s license from the Tuskegee Next program. In an interview
with the Federal Aviation Administration Newsletter, she
stated”If it were not for Gigi, I probably would not know
anything about aviation.” She attended Red Tail Flight Academy
graduated passed her Multi checkride she is a pilot.
Sean, also attended Southwest Airlines. Continuing the legacy
in aviation program, which provides middle school through
college students with hands-on aviation and educational
experiences. He was 1 of 37 selected nationwide to participate
in this program. Sean was a Southwest Airline Ambassador, and
received $10,000 scholarship from AOPA for Flight Training.

After the passing of her mother Marion Coleman (the niece of Bessie Coleman), Gigi continued with her mother’s desire not to let the spirit of Bessie die as it was not in the history books. Gigi’s mother petition the US postal Service to produce a stamp of Bessie. Or course with the same perseverance of Bessie in the blood, the stamp was released on April 27,1995.Events Calendar

released a doll dressed in her full flight clothing down to her boots. Gigi has asked to pick the best skin tone for the doll
and to select 2 sample artworks, out of the 5 sample sent to her home. Streets, school, and libraries have named or
renamed to “Bessie Coleman”.
